What is the best way to backup individual pages before you edit them, not the entire site or database?

maybe just ftp the files back to your computer?
here's instructions on how to upload files to your site, but you can do the opposite to download files onto your computer.

I'm an absolute tyro here, and I have a lot to learn. My understanding is that WordPress pages are NOT files, but complex structures of database entries, so ftp doesn't apply.

Those of us still used to how we maintain static web pages do see a need to snapshot just one page, then update it and test it, and then either revert to the snapshot or delete it.

If WordPress users don't see a need for this capability, then there must be something fundamental about WordPress that I haven't grasped yet. Can anybody help me along here?
