   I am using the unmodified p2 theme on my website http://coolstatuses.com
   I have just received a message from my webhosting company saying that it is using excessive resources and the script responsible is /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

   I am not a coder and nor have I ever had any problems with any other theme or WordPress installation that I have run in the past.

   I am running only 8 plug-ins(most of which I use on other sites), those being AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget, All in One SEO Pack, CyStat, Invisible Captcha, LJ Random Or Recent, Theme Test Drive, Vote It Up and WP-PostRatings.

   Has anyone else had a similar problem ?

   Does anyone have any ideas how it can be resolved?

   I'm with Lunarpages and have been for five years. never ever had an issue with them before

   had the same problem with LunarPages and now with another host. Not the same theme but probably with a plugin. The difference between my current host and Lunarpages is that the current host warns you about excessive usage and doesn't just terminate your account for 2-4 days. WordPress hosting with high traffic is becoming more and more difficult.

   p2 theme by default run Ajax to check for updated content every 30 seconds (i think..).

   Therefore it is VERY resource intensive if you leave the page on your browser.

   You can adjust the frequency of AJAX checking new content, but it kinda defeat the purpose of having "twitter" like functionality. So you need to balance it with your need.

   There is something wonky going on here. I commended my new host but it seems that I am still having the problem on a VPS plan as well. Something is screwed up and it is awful that we can't pinpoint these problems. It is happening to more than a select few.

   What are you response times on wp-ajax.php?

   What type of memory usage are you seeing on your server?

   I tried P2 out on a couple of the blogs on my server, and I had "out of memory" errors which killed the SQL database process and took all my blogs down. What are the recommended server specs to use the P2 theme?
