My blog is capable of receiving trackbacks and pingbacks, but I cannot send.

I have tested it at Tamba2 and Redalt.

I’ve looked at all the support articles I could find, but none of the fixes there have worked for me.

Finally, today I deleted all my files (except the database) and reinstalled. After assuring that all the plugins were disabled I tried the tests again. No luck.

The post does show that the site was pinged.

    I’m currently using 1.5.2.

Is there someplace I can look for a log, or turn logging on, to pinpoint this? Or better yet, any new ideas?

Oh, I forgot. I tested pingbaks between posts on my blog, and those DO seem to work. Could this be a hosting issue?

Could the blogs u are sending trackbacks to havecomments under moderation?

No, because the test sites they use are open test sites meant for testing ping and trackbacks.

Datarat, are you using Bad Behavior v1.2.2?

No, I’m currently using SpamKarma2, but I had it disabled for my tests yesterday.

I am having the same problem with version 1.5.2
I can receive pings but can’t notify other open blogs about the posts I have on my page.

Interesting, I can send and receive trackbacks but only send pings – according to RedAlt, my WP site returns a “Fault code: -32700 : parse error. not well formed” which I don’t understand so can’t fix (I gave up trying).

Edit: My dog stepped on the keyboard, thus this entry. He says, “Quit staring into the screen and take me for a walk!”

Hmm…, I checked with RedAlt and everything worked fine.
But trackbacking a MovableType 3.2 blog from WP didn’t work at all. Although the same MT blog could send/receive trackbacks from RedAlt… fishy….

How about logging? Would there be something in the Apache usage log? What can I look for?

Ok, I did some surfing, and what I’ve found is a very suspicious entry in my apache log.

    83.103.44.199 – – [05/Oct/2005:19:25:18 -0700] “POST /Wordpress/wp-trackback.php HTTP/1.1” 404 – “-” “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98; DigExt; freenet 4.0)”

The reason this is suspicious, is that I’ve moved the blog to the root site, so the directory /Wordpress/ no longer exists. I’m beginning to think that perhaps I’ve missed a setting somewhere.

    Help?

Well, at least I figured out what was going on. My Host has allow_url_fopen() enabled, but their firewall blocks outgoing connections. In addition to blocking Trackback and Pingback, this has had the effect of causing problems opening the SpamKarma2 admin, and disabled the FAlbum plugin.

By the way, the host is 101sitehosting.com. They’re pretty cheap and reliable, but if we can’t solve this I’d definitely recommend going somewhere else.

Moved to a new host, and it was definitely the firewall. Also solved several other problems I’d been having.

I was having a similar problem (read at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/47420), but I discovered that installing through Fantastico on my host produced a blog without errors. Figure that out!
