[closed] Outbound linking and Google penalization (3 posts)

    i've been told, and I wanted to see if this is true or not, Google will penalize you for outbound linking to certain types of sites. Vice sites like gambling in particular.

    I've also been told that it actually matters more whether the outbound link is relevant or not. That makes sense to me. I believe that. I run a sports news site, so gambling is very relevant. It's about sports gaming.

    I don't think Google would penalize you for that. I doubt they have an algorithm that says "if anyone links to site X, then its bad". Google's pretty smart about those things and will probably figure out that if the links are actually relevant, it won't result in a penalty.
