Simple User Profile
[resolved] "other options" unclear and destructive (3 posts)

The "Other Options" section of the settings for this plugin are unclear to me in their function, and seem to be messing up user settings (although maybe if I understood what they are supposed to do it would make sense).

Here is what I see in WP 3.5.1:

    Apply to Front Page:
[ ] Disable admin bar in users profile on registration
[ ] Show on Admin Edit Page

I have tried checking and unchecking these options but at first didn't notice anything change. Then I stopped seeing the admin bar on the front side under my admin user, but other users (e.g. I have an Editor user for myself also) still had it. I suspected this plugin was causing the problem, so I tried toggling these options and tried disabling the plugin, but the admin bar would never come back for my admin user. Eventually I also lost it under my Editor user. Finally I dug into the code and found the usermeta table, where the "show_admin_bar_front" keys were all mixed up. Some were set to true and others to false, but I don't understand why they were inconsistent.

To fix the issue, I set them all to true directly in the database, and commented out the code that makes the update in this plugin. Can you please explain these options more clearly in the description or readme, and perhaps fix if there is a bug? Thanks!

I will look into this and see if it is perhaps disabling the bar for the current user. The function should only run after users initially register, if this is wrong I will get a fix out in the next couple days.

The disable admin bar option disables the admin bar by default for new users when they register.

The Show on admin page loads the plugin to hide the fields when the admin goes to edit user.

I should have added a little "whats this" tooltip. Thanks for pointing that out, I will get that fixed in the near future.

Brief update after looking into the issue, the plugin would not be causing these issues unless there is a conflict with another plugin.

I will be adding a description to the options to better explain what they do. Feel free to post any conflict findings here so I can try to resolve them. Thanks.
