I can’t say for sure what the optimal settings are for each browser as I haven’t done that much testing. I do think every browser is going to be slightly different, so it may not even be possible.
The settings I used on my top Latest Extensions ticker are Scroll Speed 6, Tick Spacing 40
No problem – thanks – if I discover anything, I’ll let you know.
photoMaldives – Would you mind doing some testing of DNT for me, if you are on a PC?
sure – what do you want me to do ?
I’m trying to confirm or deny the issues another user is having in Firefix and IE. If you check out this thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/nothing-seems-to-be-working-1?replies=10 (you can just read the last posting) he claims that the “rotate mode” does not work, the scrolling speed doesn’t work (I do realize the speed issue in IE, which I am currently fixing) and the new “no follow” option does not work.
I have tested on a PC and the only issue I can confirm is the scroll speed in IE, but would just like some feedback from other users to make sure I’m not missing something.
Thanks!
Hi Joe
Sorry for the delay – was busy with other things yesterday.
I’ve set up my test page again, with new tickers – http://marinesavers.com/test-page/
With my laptop (uptodate browsers, uptodate Win7) I can see that :
1) ROTATE MODE – when it first loads, all text is stacked on top itself. After a complete cycle of all text, it then displays properly.
2) SPEED – seems to work as expected – you can see 4 different scroll speeds on this page.
3) NOFOLLOW – not sure what I’m testing here – the links certainly work OK (open in same tab).
I started detailing the difference between the browsers, but as far as I can see, they all display pretty much the same (albeit more jerky scrolling in Safari) – Chrome, IE, Firefox, Safari.
Hope that helps. 🙂
Thanks for taking a look at it!
I have made an update that will hopefully resolves all the issues. I thought I had your #1 issue resolved before, so now have have changed the .clearfix class to a unique class name for my ticker, which should resolve all conflicts with theme css files.
I have also reworked the scrolling code and from my testing it has fixed the speed issue in IE.
The no follow checkmark adds: rel=”nofollow” to the link of a tick. Add this attribute tells google to not follow the link when indexing a site (for Search engine optimization).
Could you please update your ticker and do one more round of testing for me?
Thank you very much for your time helping me out with this!
Hi Joe – you’re welcome. 🙂
Updated your plugin, and taking another look at my test page (F5 refreshed).
1) ROTATE MODE – looks perfect now, in all 4 of my browsers.
2) SPEED in IE – I never actually experienced this problem before min IE10, but all seems OK anyway.
3) NOFOLLOW – when I hover over the links, I just see http://www.google.com etc – is this correct ? But when I view the source code for the page I can see the NOFOLLOW like this –
<div style="height:20px;" class="mtphr-dnt-tick mtphr-dnt-clearfix"><a href="http://www.yahoo.com" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http://www.yahoo.com']);" target="_self" rel="nofollow"><b><font size="4">Yahoo</b></font></a></div>
Hope that helps.
Keep up the great work. 🙂
Great, thanks! The nofollow looks good. I’m assuming you have some sort of Google tracking that automatically adds the event tracking, but the nofollow is showing as it should.
Thanks, again for the testing!
