Support » Plugins » OpenID 3 on my domain

  • Hi everyone!

I got my own domain (not from WP, from an ISP), and finally succeeded in having my own wp installation working. That felt good 🙂

Now I’d like to do something like this: disable any registration for random users, and allow only OpenID users to leave comments. This is because I’d like comments, but I’d like to avoid spam by allowing only users registered on some domains to leave comments (like wordpress, or livejournal). That means, if I’m not mistaken, that OpenID users will be “subscribers”.

It seemed simple with the OpenID 3 plugin, but I cannot follow the instructions to make it work! BTW, I have also the XRDS-Simple plugin installed.

My settings are as follows. In Settings-OpenID I enabled “Automatically approve comments left with verified OpenIDs” and “Add OpenID help text to the comment form”. In Settings-Discussion I enabled “Allow people to post comments on the article”, “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”, “Anyone posts a comment”, “A comment is held for moderation”, “An administrator must always approve the comment”, and “Comment author must have a previously approved comment”.

Thanks to anyone who can help me! 🙂

PS. When hitting the XRDS-Simple plugin settings, I get an XML file displayed. Is it its normal behavior?

A little off topic, but if you want to combat spam effectively, try using Akismet and Bad Behavior.

You’ll get the same results without the hassle of setting up OpenID like this.

Thanks for the pointer! BTW, my biggest objective is to delegate user registration to other sites using OpenID. Or maybe that’s just a wishful thinking… 🙂

    Hello, senseiwa.

It looks like we are building the same thing. I installed wordpress, openid and XRDS-Simple plugins and changed “Anyone can register” in general setting to Yes. All other settings are default. This shall achieve what you want.
