   How can I make redirector open a link in a new window?

   and, I tried "page links to" and it opened external links in the same window...how to fix that?

   Either answer would do me well. Thanks!

   This plugin http://www.technokinetics.com/plugins/page-lists-plus/
   will allow you to link to other URLs and you can also set it to open in a new window - in HTML that is target="_blank" - it gives an option for that on the page

   great! worked like a charm.

   Now my next question - how do I get one of the bar plugins to display (they all seem to work based off links in posts)

   Not sure what you mean by bar plugin - please provide URL to one from WP plugin search page
