   is there any easy way to open external links in new tabs by default?

   I am expecially interested in doing so for the links appearing in the RSS widget, but would be glad if it acted on the whole site.

   Use WP-NoExternallinks plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-noexternallinks/

   hmmm... this does not work with sidebar links
   but it seems there's no easy way to do that
