    See the screenshots here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11280200/Screen%20Shot%202012-11-08%20at%209.45.38%20AM.png and here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11280200/Screen%20Shot%202012-11-07%20at%202.04.52%20AM.png

    The second shows that although there are only two administrators, even though it shows (3) in the counter above it. The first shows the usermeta table, where there are only two users with administrator capabilities. What gives?

    Have you checked the wp_users table?

    Ugh, let's try again here and here.

    @esmi What would the wp_user table have to do with administrator permissions? I thought that was all stored in wp_usermeta?

    Because you need to see if the total number of users in the users table matches that in your site's back end.

    @esmi, checked there, 802 results, and in the WP dashboard, there are 819 users. What does that mean?

    Something is seriously wrong somewhere. Do you have any recent database backups that you could look at?

    @esmi nothing's changed. I've looked at backups going back a year.

    Do you have a user id in the wp_usermeta table for the "extra" admin?

    @esmi No. I don't.

    Was your site ever hacked?

    @esmi Yes, but this has been happening before the site was hacked.

    When was the site hacked? What version of WordPress were you using?

    @esmi The site was hacked running 3.2.1 and it happened a month ago. (It is running 3.4.2 now) But this two administrator issue has been going on ever since I first saw the site (over 6 months ago).

    I think the other admin was added whilst the site was running WP 3.2.1

    @esmi Okay, how do I remove him/her?

    You could try backing up your database and then removing that row from the wp_usermeta table.

    @esmi What row? There is no extra administrators listed in wp_usermeta.

    Then where are these extra users? In what database table?

    @esmi In wp_users.

    Sorry - then it's that table you need to remove the extra rows from.

    @esmi But there are not any extra rows in that table. There are not enough rows in the table. 802 rows in the table, 819 users showing in WordPress.

    Try doing a manual crosscheck to confirm who the genuine users are (as listed in the dashboard and with entries in wp_usermeta) and remove any not listed. But do backup your database before you start any of this - just in case.
