I want to integrate an online store to my current wp site.

I have done research on understanding whats needed for an online store in the past and found things like enstore, shopify etc etc.

Can I add an online store with wordpress plugins that includes the shopping cart, billing, shipping etc? (basically all the elements needed to creat an online store)

I know I need to signup with a gateway etc but besides that will these wp plugins like "WP Online Store" and "WP e-Commerce" take care of all the other parts needed to complete an online store?

I'm wondering what enstore, vollusion shopify etc have that a wp plugin does not and how they compare?

I have not used either wp or shopify/vollusion etc so I am not sure how they are different.

    Thank you.

Ok I have tested eshop a little bit and I have some questions.

I need the following pages in this sort of set up:

Online Store page with a drop down menu of multiple product pages. Then on each page I need a thumbnail with a description and price of each product. (like this http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/592?nav=gnro)When you click on each product it brings you to a full description of the product with the option to buy.

If I do this using eshop don't I have to create a page for each product(the full details page like this http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/73126?feat=592-GN1&attrValue_0=Raisin&productId=1192486 ) and link it to the thumbnail/quick description/price listing?

If so won't I end up with a lot of "pages" that I need to somehow "hide" from the normal menu items? I've never done something like this so i want to make sure thats the "gist" of it and there's not a quicker way. I would hate to spend hours createing these full product listing pages if theres an easier way.

    Yes you do.

That really depends upon what you are using to generate your site's navigation menu.

What do you mean "depends upon what you are using to generate your site's navigation menu. "

I'm creating my pages/categories and then I'm managing them using the Appearance>Menu area.

So you are using a custom menu - which means that you choose what Pages are listed in your navigation menus. So where is the problem with your product Pages?

    Ok I understand now.

So I create my pages (that are individual product listings) in the NEW PAGE area but then I just do not include all those single product pages in my menu items. However I need to LINK those pages to their respective thumbnails where they can be purchased?

Without knowing the full benefits yet and how everything works I'm still trying to figure out why someone would choose a system like shopify (which costs money) over eshop??

I tried doing a comparison search ie. "eshop vs shopify" to see what the differences or pros/cons are of each but i cant find anything like that. Of course if I took the time to test each one I would know what one has over the other. Although thats a lot of research to do.

    Bingo! :-)

People's needs vary and some people just have a personal preference. If you google around, you should find some sites that have done quick comparisons of the main ecommerce plugins.

i see you mention my companies little jaunt into the wonderful world of WordPress ecommerce and i would love your thoughts on our plugin: WP Online Store.

You can check out the features and even a fully operational demo (front end and back end) on our site http://www.wponlinestore.com

I see you mention the whole creating "lots of pages" thing. Our plugin is a self contained ecommerce portal that literally sits in one page in any WP theme, meaning ALL navigation, sign ups, admin, checkouts etc are done through this single portal. We felt it was cleaner this way.

Anyway would love your thoughts, we are new but hope to make a splash soon.

    Cheers
