One site, 2 Blogs

Hi, I have am using the theme GalleryPRO for my photography (Local so far). In the theme you can post direct to the front page which basically is a thumbnail gallery and then you are directed to the single post of that thumb.

Now, I would like to incorporate a blog to my site. Problem is the posting in wp is all going to the front as a thumb/single etc.. I would like a simple blog page which can handle posts with a category (or something) of Blog but not appear on the front.

I have searched the web for various articles but nothing specific to my problem.
I have tried to create a blog cat and assigned this cat to a navigation but the posts share the same template so I get a thumbnail on the blog post. I need a new page template with a loop and make sure certain posts are only going to this page and using this particular loop.

How hard can this be? Im not really sure of hacking wordpress, but happy to get my hands wet, so to speak..
