One Media Library for Network (4 posts)

Is it possible to have a single media library for the entire network?

My multisite is a family blog where each site is language specific (site.com/en/ site.com/es/ site.com/jp/

Since many a time entries in each site will be essentially the same thing in 3 different languages, photos and videos to be used would be the same.

Given the above, would it make sense to have a single library for the whole network so that there are no triplicate versions of each photo or video I upload? Is this possible?

  2. No. Each site on a MultiSite Network is, by intent, totally separate. You could force WP to use one upload folder, but that would NOT make all images show up in all media libraries.

You'd need to find a plugin for that, and so far as I know, none exist yet.

Thanks for your reply. If I have to upload a video for each language child site, I will run out of space very fast.

As an alternative, is it possible to embed private youtube videos in WordPress?

  4. I was about to say 'of course' but I THINK you have to tell YouTube 'allow this site to embed my videos'. Which I can't remember if they do or not :/

If you don't mind NOT using the media library, you can make your own folder (/my-uploads/) and store all your videos there, linking to them directly.
