   It appears to me that when I edit a WP Help entry, that edit process ends up switching the Help item into a "Post"? I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this or if it is related to my install/plugins, etc...thx in advance.

   I'm experiencing the exact same issue. If I create a brand-new wp-help post then everything is fine. But if I edit and update it, it saves as a regular post.

   This is caused by the plugin "post-type-switcher" which, in the case of WP-Help topics, defaults the post type to "Post" when you save an edit. You need to disable this plugin before editing help topics.

   Verified. It's post-type switcher plugin. Deactivate that plugin when you don't need it any longer. Activate it when you need to switch something. Thanks @lackingpenguin.
