background to what? header? body?
background to the website.. you can go to appearance and click background and upload a background image which goes behind the header and body… I need to find the CSS to that. Since on my site I have a custom body built into my background (same as my sidebar) which you can see at the site:

That’s not a child theme, it’s just Twenty Ten in a themes/twentyten2 directory. I don’t know what changes were made but the theme name still sayes Theme Name: Twenty Ten and that will confuse things when the real Twenty Ten get’s selected.
Install and learn to use Firebug. That will help you identify which CSS rules need to be modified to change that background and any other CSS changes you want.
