Ok so for the most part im with 3 hosting companies and each has fantastico.

once installed i normally login and go to options, permalinks and it says

    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

    or

    /archives/%post_id%

but this host varhosting i joined i just finished installing wordpress via fantastico with them. logged into admin go to perma links and theres says

    Structure: /index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

    or
    Structure: /index.php/archives/%post_id%

What the heck.. why does it have index.php in front?? is something messed up or what?

ive uninstalled and reinstalled same thing again.. is this something to do with my host? are they crap or is wordpress not compatible with them.. i checked to see what version they are using and its 1.5.2

any ideas? anyone seen this before? any fix.. so i can have it the way it normally is.. without that index.php.. where the hecks it getting that from?

If you installed WP with 3 different hosts I am sure you are familiar with this guide: Using_Permalinks

Much more likely that your new host would have an answer to this than that we would. Seems like a specific thing the host does through fantastico....
