• I am considering adding Mingle to my site but it’s a little disconcerting that I’ve just noticed the official site is down – and looking at a previous post has been down for a few days now.

Will this plugin be ongoing and supported? Also, when will the official site be back up and running?

  • Good point. I am also worried as the site is down several days already.

By the way, the author should use date_i18n instead of date.

Umm and the last post they made on WordPress was on the Wednesday April 27th, 2011

The site went down like this once before and was back up in a couple of days. I’m hoping this is just another hosting glitch.

I use Mingle Forum and really like it. The author stated he was working on a complete rebuild of the forum due out later this summer. I’m hoping this is still in the works. We’ll see.

BBpress will be getting good wordpress integration soon.

But I like Mingle better, hope he keeps it updated.

I’m surprised that the Mingle site is still down. This isn’t looking good.

I tried BBpress but its lack of WordPress integration was a deal breaker for me. If that is fixed it may be worth another look.

I’ve been looking at Simple Press. I haven’t tried it but it looks good and they offer import from Mingle Forum.

Currently I’m hoping that Paul gets his site back online and continues supporting Mingle.

http://webhostingpad.com has shut me down (without notice and without options) because of too much traffic. They are being extremely rude to me and I’m having a tough time getting everything worked out with them right now. I’m hoping to get the site re-setup on a VPS soon, hopefully within the next few days.

    Thanks for the patience!

Glad to hear everything’s okay with cartpauj and hopefully everything will be up and running soon.

Tried several forums for wordpress, and I really love the mingle forum: good integration with wordpress and above all – simple and clean. Hope the site will be up and running soon.

I’ve been considering a forum plugin for my WordPress site. So far, Mingle forum is the best out there. I’d like to see a faster release cycle, and a cleaner theme. Without images, I say.

Also, I’d like the SEO module NOT TO add the forum ID after the pretty name.

    e.g. “forum/butterfly-merchant-group3/general-forum8/just-wanted-to-say-thanks-thread16/” – I don’t want to have the “3”, “8” and “16” there.

Also, cartpauj, you’ll have serious competition the moment bbpress is launched as a plugin.

I insist with the “no images” appearance. CSS can do all that, even better.

    Good luck with your hosting!

    Cheers!

I totally agree with Ciprian Popescu. Please relinquish the images, and the IDs in the URLs.

In addition, the code of the mingle forum is not valid. πŸ™

Plus, as I mentioned before, date_i18n() should be used instead of date() to localize the date specifications.

Where can I download bbPress as a WordPress plugin?

My biggest (only) issue with Mingle Forum is email notifications.

As administrator I get wonderful notifications every time someone posts on my Mingle Forum. My users should have to option to get them too. There should also be an auto-subscribe feature to a thread anytime someone starts or makes a post.

My forum is a low traffic niche, email notifications are almost essential to keep people involved.

@h-u-g-o: bbPress is not yet available as a plugin. Soon.

    I also agree with ThorsDad.

And, simple or not, there should be a preview option.

    @ciprian Popescu: Thank you.

I don’t mean to be a downer but I’ve been hearing “soon” on that bbpress plugin for what seems like about 2 years now. I don’t doubt it will happen but I’m not sure how soon, “soon” is.

Most of the features asked for here in this thread will be available when the new Forum plugin comes out. Mingle Forum has reached it’s potential because of the way the original author programmed it. That is why as Craig mentioned earlier, I will be writing a new forum plugin from scratch this summer.
