I'm wondering if it would be possible to like my facebook fan-site without opening a new window?

It's a dream to have the cached facebook fan-box which looks and feels exactly like the original and without any restrictions ;)

That would be pretty boss, I ain't gonna lie. It's also pretty hard to accomplish, but should still be doable, nonetheless, since all the informational data is there as well as all the javascripts.

Bummer... images from FB have stopped loading... Haven't made any changes to the FB Cache settings, so I don't know why its not working anymore.

@peteratomic - ahh crap, apparently I didn't take into consideration the fact that I can't assume people will have WordPress installed in the root directory. Sorry. With caching images in 1.4, and then rewriting the URLs to serve the local image, it's looking in the wrong path for your pictures, since your in /blog.

You can wait for the next release (20 min) or you can fix it yourself. On line 226, 264, and 299 add /blog in front of /wp-content in the src tag, and it will work fine.

I just pushed the fix live for everyone. For those of you experiencing the same issue, just update to 1.4.1 (or greater if it's out when you are reading this). Thanks Peter

Thanks Don "the hardest working plugin developer in OS" Gilbert! That did the trick!

Hi, I installed this plug-in but it doesn't work. I get this error message instead:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in /home/mhd-01/www.mindcheats.net/htdocs/wp-prova/wp-content/plugins/facebook-fan-box-cache/facebook-fan-box-cache.php on line 168

I read that setting the permissions to 777 in the cache folder can help, but my host doesn't let me set 777 for security reasons (it barley let me use 750 actually). Any other option? I use version 1.4.1

@Bucciamarcia - it looks like your web host does not have cURL enabled for your site.

In future versions, this *shouldn't* matter, because I am removing the requirement for cURL to be enabled by utilizing WordPress' WP_HTTP class to make the request instead. What that will do is find what method is available on your server, and retrieve it using the fastest / most efficient available method.

Look for it in v2.0. :)

Heh, this is what I get when I choose a cheap host! XD

Thank you very much, I'll wait for v2.0 then. Is there a release date already?

Hi, this is an address of my fanpage: http://www.facebook.com/fotomargines and I have a problem with fanbox ID. So as I read I have to wait for 2.0?

@pawelsuder - Your Fan Page ID is 330023013371.

For those who can't find it, navigate to your fanpage, and then view the page source. In it, you'll find a section near the top that looks like this image. You'll see your Fan Page ID there.

In v2.0, I'll have an ID Getter where you can just paste your URL, and it will return your Fan Page ID.

@Donald Gilbert, please read with attention ;) I asked about fanbox ID, not fanpage. You use it in widget and I don't know, what it's and how can I find it for my fanpage (330023013371). Widget without fanbox doesn't work - http://www.fotomargines.pl

@pawelsuder - Please listen with attention - I am the writer of the plugin, so I know what it needs. If the page you posted is the fan page that you would like to use my plugin with, then what I posted (330023013371) is what you need to use.

Also, try to be more clear with your question - because it really isn't. "I have a problem with fanbox ID" isn't very descriptive.

    SETTINGS // Facebook Page ID // 330023013371
    WIDGET // Fanbox ID: // ???

So this is my problem - i don't know what is it "fanbox ID" because Facebook gives me only

    <fb:like-box href="http://www.facebook.com/fotomargines"

Got it - sorry that I didn't make them say the same thing, but they are the same thing. You need to put the number provided in the Fanbox ID of the widget. It's coded so that if there isn't anything there it will pull the ID from the settings page, is that not working for you? If so, then it is a bug.

The reason it was coded that way is so that you could set a "main" fan page id in your settings, but if you wanted to put a widget for a different fan page id on your site, it would override and allow you to have multiple widgets for different pages. Maybe I should get rid of the FB Cache settings page altogether and just use widgets.

I'm getting thumbnails lined up vertically, just one per row. What am I doing wrong? I've tried every width setting. I really like the idea behind this plugin, but still using wp-fb-fanbox at http://trianglehomesuccess.com/ until I can figure out the right settings!

@robnalexpress - it may be because you opted to "Disable Inline CSS" in the admin panel. Did you? If so, the images won't float left within the div and therefore will appear as you have described. To fix that, un-check the disable inline css and then clear the cache. It should be good to go then.

v2.0 will make it easier to style the box with the addition of a theming engine.

@Donald Gilbert- Thanks for the quick reply. Un-checking disable inline css did the trick. Replacing wp-fb-fanbox with your plugin raised my Yslow score from 79 to 85, but for some reason I took a hit on Page Speed score from 84 to 79!? Hmmmmm. Everything seems to involve a trade-off. Thanks so much for all your work and making this plugin available!

    No prob Rob. :)

Try running the page speed test after refreshing the page a couple times, just so we can be sure everything is cached properly. It should be good.

    I'm glad you like it!

Donald- If I refresh the page, Page Speed score jumps from 77 to 83, but when I revisit the page it's back to 77. I'm using W3TC, FWIW, and that has been a great caching plugin. To my eye the sites are loading much faster, not having to wait on Facebook every time, except for the Sexy Bookmarks connection.

    Sites are: http://trianglehomesuccess.com/ and http://trianglenewhome.com/

This is a multisite (2 sites) on a shared host. Always looking for ways to speed things up.

    Ok - makes sense.

This plugin is actually the perfect companion to W3TC, since it caches the contents of the iframe, which W3TC is then able to cache. (from what I understand, W3TC doesn't cache iframe content)

Thanks - because you reminded me of another thing I was planning on adding to v2.0, and that's W3TC integration so that my plugins cache will refresh on the same interval as W3TC.

Playing nice with W3TC would be awesome! It's great to see someone trying to do things without slowing everything down in the process. Lately I'm noticing that many of the prettiest sites are also the slowest- and it doesn't have to be that way!

Is there a setting to allow viewers to visit the facebook page, as in the wp-fb-fanbox? I suppose I can just throw a hyperlink into the widget title.

The "Become a Fan" text links to the fan page in a new window.

Getting a different hover effect on my 2 sites. On this site the name becomes italicized. On this site I get a double underline. Any suggestions?

Solved: It was just my theme settings.

@Donald Gilbert- On a multisite, do you recommend network activation of the plugin or by individual sites?

i like the plug-in, but i still want to have it look like the official facebook fan-box. has anyone done this? can you send me your css and tell me how to implement it?

@robnalexpress - network activation would be fine, as the settings are saved in each blogs wp_#_options table.

@DanMichel - I just released v1.5 which includes a CSS guide, but nothing specific to making it look like the official. Stay tuned, as I'm sure someone (maybe even me) will put that together soon.

    Thnx for the plugin.

    Two remarks:
    1) The class .widget_FBCache isn't there (sometimes?).
    2) Maybe you should add the following text in the install text: CHMOD the folder "cache" to 707 or higher.
