Notifications not going through SMTP

    My SMTP mail is working fine with the default Buddypress registration process, but when I try using a plugin like Gravity Forms Registration Add On or WP User Frontend Add On they revert to sendmail. Many of my users are not receiving their verification emails at all.
    Is there a way to prioritize SMTP or force all php mail to go through SMTP?
