Right now you can’t do it. WordPress doesn’t track are you on site or not, and sending email every time you aren’t in the chat room and someone sends chat message would send too many emails. I don’t see how to implement it in the future, if you have an idea please share.

Hmmm…I was just looking for something similar.
It would be really awesome if a registered user on the site could get an email notification (maybe even only 1 time in the same day) if someone sends that username a message using @username.
Also – a widget that shows when someone is in the chatroom. I guess the workaround for this one would be putting just the list of people in the chat room in a sidebar…kind of a hokey work-around. Maybe a “chat room active” light that turns green or something?
