DANG IT it took out my html..

To add a link to your WordPress posts, put the link in an HTML Anchor tag, as you were trying to do. You had it right, just do it all with < and > characters, no brackets. [ ]

yeah i added those [] because the forums treated the html as valid html so i had to add those so you could see my syntax.

So why dont i need to add /var/www/wordpress/wp-content

I believe /var/www/ is used by your server to get you to the root of your site. Because there are multiple users on a single server, typically there is a username prior to the /var/www/ such as /home/LT72884/var/www/ which is used to identify your private space on the server. It’s sorta like a pre-prefix, I guess.

The public root of your site then becomes whatever is inside that /www/ directory. Since you have WP installed in that root directory, you can just link directly to things. I can only view things on or after the http://www.yourdomain.com/ point, but http://your_server/home/your_username/var/www/index.html is meaningless to me.

Hope that makes sense, and correct me if I’m wrong 🙂

make sense. I totally forgot that my domain name pointed to /var/www/waordpress. i knew i was close but something was a miss. thanx guys.

will this work for any file such as a jpg or free mp3’s or movies?

Haha, yeah it should. If you’re going to upload / add media via WP, it will dump those files in the /wp-content/uploads/ directory by default (and then in month/year sub-directories if you have that setting enabled). Under your admin dashboard, go to Settings > Miscellaneous to check.

Is that the RIAA I hear knocking at your door…? =P

yeah i added those [] because the forums treated the html as valid html so i had to add those so you could see my syntax.

Ummm …. see that box next to the “b-quote” one? Says “code”? Take a wild guess what that is there for. Correct – to insert code into a post and not have it read AS valid code.

Are you sure thats what the “code” button is for?? LOL jk. I saw that lasst night and thought that was what it was for but it was to late.

Reflexion: RIAA, nah. Its all good. i wouldnt want to share my movies with any one or music because in high school i and a few other students got in trouble for downloading music and movies and storing them on a server at the school. The server was not the schools. It was our professors server and he wanted a music server for the students.

but after 2 years of downloading it was shutdown. 🙁

ok i think this is resolved. Feel free to visit my site and leave comments and what not. LOL

    Matt
