Not seeing newly FTP'd plugins on WP backend (4 posts)

I'm downloading plugins and they are showing that they are uploaded into my /wp-content/plugins/ folder, but when I log into the back-end of my blog I cannot see them to activate them.

I know I have to update to the next version of wordpress and this might help, but I've lost my blog before and am quite frankly scared of it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Are you making new directories for new plugins or just dumping PHP files into /wp-content/plugins?

Yea, you should upload the zip/rar files directly into that folder and THEN uncompress them if you're not sure. most plug ins that have addl content need the folder as a 'source' to work from... so if you dump everything into the 'plugins' folder, WP won't recognize them.
