Hi - I have installed my very first wordpress site on my own location (http://scratchpad101.com). In wordpres.com when another blogger links back to my blog post, I get a notification and a comment is added back- that is not happening on this installation.
do i need to install a plugin for this wo work?
No - you don't. Are pingbacks/trackbacks enabled in Settings->Discussion?

I think yes - This option is checked (Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
How old is the site? How do you know that you are missing trackbacks?

site is 24 hours old.
I know it is not working, because I posted a trackback on http://scrtchpad.wordpress.com and it did not show up on my site. You can check the post: http://scrtchpad.wordpress.com/2011/08/22/concurrency-patterns-producer-and-consumer/ which links back.

ok i just noticed that my comments feed is returning a 404 (http://scratchpad101.com/comments/feed/). Is there something special that I need to do to fix this?
site is 24 hours old.
Give a bit longer before you assume something is broken. Also check that you have enabled pinging in your wordpress.com blog.

Thanks for the update. The pinging is enabled in wordpress.com blog.
I noticed that the wordpress.com blog is sending pings to my comments feed and it received a 404. Hence i assumed that it is getting to my site but something was wrong.
I added a comment and checked that the feed works fine.
I will check in a day or so and get back on this forum.

This is still not working :(
And I checked that pingbacks are enabled on all the wordpress sites I have in discussion.
