Or at least I don't think I was hacked. I see no extra accounts and my permalinks are fine. I updated to 2.8.4 as soon as it was released.
However, in the space of four minutes, I received 64 spam comments. (Thank you, Akismet!) Normally I get, on average, one a day at most. I'm wondering if this is related to the attack and if I have anything to be concerned about. Seems to me like a spam gift basket sent by a pissed off hacker who couldn't get into my blog, but maybe there is no correlation and it's just a coincidence.
Curious if anyone has had similar experiences today with spam comments. Thanks.

Yeah. If your install is tight and the latest build I wouldn't worry about it. It may just be your turn. Our sites have patterns too. Spam always but at times it gets worse and slows down for a bit then picks back up. The eb and flow of the spammers.

It's the latest build, but I'm not sure what constitutes "tight."
You're surely right. Just thought it was funny that I got blasted with spam the same day of the attacks.
The best plugin I've found to stop comment spam is the Tan Tan Noodles plugin.
Get it, try it, and I bet it'll work.
