[resolved] Not finding/displaying related posts (10 posts)

Hello! I have YARPP Basic 4.1.2 installed on WP 3.8.1; excellent plugin, but I recently noticed it was no longer working (in the past it was finding and displaying related posts fine, so I know that most of my posts were in fact well-related). YARPP will only display any related content if "Display results from all post types" is chosen, but I don't want to use that option as I only wish to display results from related posts, and choosing that makes every page and post display a couple pages as the links. (Unchecking the option makes it so that no related content is found/displayed, even when I move the relatedness threshold to 1.)
I disabled and deleted the plugin, made certain there was no YARPP table still in the database, made my wp_posts table MyISAM, installed and enabled the plugin, and pressed the button for re-indexing posts after converting to MyISAM.
    Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi literaturegeek. Are you primarily using "pages" in WordPress? Without having categories or tags, pages are harder to show in the "related posts" section. If your database doesn't allow fulltext searches, then nothing will show in the "related posts" section of pages.

I am not primarily using pages; I am primarily using posts. My wp_posts table is MyISAM as the plugin instructed; is that enough to allow fulltext searches?

In the "Relatedness" panel, do the dropdowns next to Title and Bodies work, or are they stuck on "Do not consider"?

Also, which theme are you using?

The dropdowns do work (I'm considering both). I'm using Twenty Fourteen. I've put some text in the field for what to display when nothing is found ("Didn't find any posts") and that does indeed display when the plugin is only allowed to choose from related posts for a post.

I just installed Twenty Fourteen and have not checked "Display results from all post types" and am seeing related posts at the bottom of my posts. (I did have to adjust my Match Threshold down, however.)

If you're still not seeing any related posts, you might have a plugin that is conflicting. Are you able to disable your plugins (or at least the ones you recently added) and see if that makes a difference?

Wait! My "Relatedness" titles and Bodies are stock on "do not consider"

elenka29, YARPP doesn't allow those dropdowns if it detects that your database engine is InnoDB. Can you confirm?

Jeff, thank you very much for your feedback on Twenty Fourteen. I did try disabling other plugins, but from your test it sounds like it's probably something specific to my set-up. I'll try adding the pieces of my site back in from a fresh install and report if this doesn't solve the issue. Thanks again for your generous assistance!

Yes, if you are sure your database is using MyISAM and not the InnoDB engine, then we need to figure out why those dropdowns are disabled. They should be available for MyISAM.
