Support » Fixing WordPress » Not collapsing white space at the end of line ?

  • I’ve disabled the visual editor and copy/pasting HTML code from an off-line editor to my blog (blog.arungupta.me). However it seems like the whitespace at the end of lines is not collapsing properly.

    Here is a sample page:

Notice unintentional breaks at the end of each line. If I remove the line breaks from the source then the text is nicely formatted.

How do I fix it ?

    Thanks,
    -Arun

  • Either your offline editor is adding the line breaks instead of wrapping the text or you are pressing the enter or return key at the end of the lines of text. Check your offline editor’s text wrap settings or try a different offline editor, and make sue that when you write, you just let the text within a paragraph wrap to the next line by itself.

    Thanks iridiax!

I’m using Kompozer on Mac and it does not seem to have an option for word wrapping as explained at:

    http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2545308&group_id=170132&atid=853125

There is a Handcoder/HTML Tidy workaround but apparently not on Mac. Nvu is an earlier version of Kompozer so out of question.

Tried Amaya (standard W3C editing software) but it does not support options for text wrap.

I wonder why the standard W3C compliant HTML generated by Amaya is not rendered correctly by WordPress 🙁

Could there be something in my stylesheet that might be causing it ?

I’d recommend using blog client or a free text/code editor like TextWrangler.

Finally decided on using Qumana, it seems to serve the purpose well.
