• Tried to upgrade from 1.02 to 1.2 a couple of times with no success. Both times, it completely messed up the main page. I was also not able to login both times after running the upgrade script. Do not know why it is not working. I deleted everything from the server except the index.php, wp-layout.css and the wp-style folder that I’m using and uploaded 1.2 and ran the upgrade. All it did was scramble the blog pretty good. Got it back to 1.02 and it is working fine now. Anyone got some ideas on why it’s not upgrading properly? Have I missed a step somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • It’s difficult to answer without seeing the ‘mess’.
Have you customised the index a lot ?
I can’t see an obvious reason why is should happen.
The login problem has been encountered here before, and this worked for me

What may work, or would at least help narrow the search for the problem, would be if you backed up your index.php to your machine, then used the new index with the mingus release. You would have to redo it to your liking, but doing this would pinpoint the issue that’s breaking your blog.

Thanks podz, I sort of came to that conclusion last night. I probably will need to upload the new index and work it from there. There is not much changes in the index file, so it should not take to long. I figured out the login problem and changed the password in the user database last night. If anyone is interested this is how my blog looks right now before I bust it up tonight. 😉

Got the upgrade working on my blog, it was the old index.php file that was creating a conflict and scrambling the blog. I did what podz recommended and uploaded everything including the new index file from the mingus release and worked it from there. The upgrade proceeded flawlessly and I edited the new index file to work with my old style. It took about 15 extra minutes to do that. Hope this info helps anyone else who encounters the same problem.
A thank you to podz for the recommendation, and also a big thank you to the whole WordPress team! WP rocks!

I had the same exact problem. I had some customization done to my index.php in 1.0.2 and simply copied it over. Apparently 1.2 doesn’t like the way the 1.0.2 index.php called the css file and never loaded the stylesheet.
I moved the upgrade index.php over and recreated my old one using the new file. This is rather a pain for those with many customizations. Could this be fixed somehow?
