• I recently became aware of some comment spam that hit my site. I’m not sure if it happened after I upgraded my Yahoo hosted WP blog or it it was there before. There were a bunch of links to a spam url. Inside my themes directory the header and footer php files were modified to include dozens of the spam links. I removed them, but still seem to have redirects and other nonsense happening.

Doing a Google search of: phentermine site:astablesolution.com
shows 40 occurrances of the problem.

The links that show up for the most part don’t work, the urls seem to be redirected all over the place. From what I can tell via Google my blog still thinks that its content is about cheap drugs and not about my business.

What files should I be checking to sort this out? I’ve installed the ReCaptcha plug in, but still have the problem.

    Thanks.

    Monique

  • That’s a clear sign that your site has been hacked, so no plugin will help.
It has to be cleaned up: check for dubious files in all the directories, re-upload your theme files (btw, are you editing any template files online? – that’s a sure way to make your site hackable!), and everything.
Also, it might come from your database, if the hack was done by inserting the garbage into your DB.

Search for “hacked” and you will find a lot of threads about what to do.

Definitely change all your passwords asap!

Change passwords for each WP user, FTP passwords (with your host) and install and you may be interested in installing WordPress Login Lockdown to protect your WordPress install.

Then it just takes time for the spiders to go through your site and not find the phentermine references. Try submitting a google sitemap through google webmasters to point the bots in the right direction.

Here’s a question, Can I just save the SQL tables that pertain to my posts and nuke worpress, then reload it and link in the tables with the posts?

No. You can not “selectively” backup only certain tables. All or nothing. They are all inter-related!
