Non existant child pages redirect to wrong page instead of 404 error! (5 posts)

I am getting non-existent child pages redirecting to another page with the same child part of the url instead of giving a 404 page not found error.

I've reproduced the problem on a clean installation with no plugins enabled and no configuration done:

http://www.pickituplater.co.uk/fred/prices/ exists and correctly shows Fred's prices page.

http://www.pickituplater.co.uk/bert/prices/ exists and correctly shows Bert's prices page.

http://www.pickituplater.co.uk/anythingelse/prices/ does not exist, but instead of getting a page not found it is instead redirecting to Fred's prices page.

How do I stop this unwanted behaviour?

    Thanks,
    Nick

    Yes, that fixed it.

    Thank you NewtonPlease!

Do you know what else this effects? Because I guess the purpose of the redirects isn't just for this particular case and I wonder if it will effect some other behaviour that it wouldn't be desirable to effect.

    Mmm, that's quite important.

It's surely not intended to be redirecting a page that doesn't exist to some other page that is very unlikely to be the one that was meant. (And in my case another business's prices would be shown when the business that was meant doesn't have a price list.)

I need to look into it a bit more.
