Hi everybody.
I am trying to set up a new website for an already running community.
I put the basic stuff together (WP 2.9.2, BuddyPress 1.2, bbpress (stable)).
Now, starting testing, i noticed something which is strange for me as a WP novice.
I tried to register with a username containing spaces.
The form told me, that this is an invalid username.
Ok, fine. There will be a solution somewhere. But searching all WP, BP and BB forums i couldn't find what i was looking for.
The problem is, i would like to switch a complete community from an old system to wordpress. If wordpress is not capable of using spaces and other non-alphanumeric problem, i would get into real trouble and might have to drop the idea of using wordpress (We have 40K Users and most of them use non-alphanumeric characters).
My questions:
Is there a way to use non-alphanumerics?
Why is there such a restriction?
What would be the side-effect if i hack that stuff so it might work with non-alphanumerics?
TIA
