• Our new tabbed editor allows you to switch between WYSIWYG and code editing instantly while writing a post.

After upgrading to 2.1 everthing works fine, but I can’t find a ‘tabbed editor’. Just get a plain text editor.

    Is the top checkbox checked?

Yes, I’ve been spending a lot of time troubleshooting and have tried everything everyone has mentioned, reinstalled, etc. the problem is still there. I’m going to have to go back to an earlier version.

Is there a way to disable the ‘code’ tab for certain users, let’s say anyone who’s just an Editor, not an Admin?

    I have the same problem

I also do not get the visual editor. I installed on a new server and tried both Firefox and IE but the two “Visual” and “Code” tabs do nothing. If I uncheck the visual editor option in profile then I will get buttons, but the editing is all in code.

    I have the same problem

I’ve the same problem with WP2.1 as others have reported, viz. only B(old) and I(talic) formatting buttons visible in the Visual editor. Interestingly, too, the Pages (edit-pages.php), though not the Posts, are displayed in reverse order to their listing in the side-bar.

Problem solved after restarting server. If anyone else with the same problem hasn’t tried that, I’d recommend giving it a whirl–might just work for you too.

And, after updating a few plugins, WP 2.1 now looks darn good. So I’d also suggest to those upgrading to 2.1. that they check for latest versions of any installed plugins.

I have tried all the stuff suggested above with regard to clean installs and such.

    My layout is this.

I have two databases, hence two copies of WP. Everything worked perfectly in versions prior to 2.1.

With 2.1, one works fine, the other has problems with the visual editor. It displays all right, but spell checking just runs and runs and never stops. When I try to add a link with the visual editor, I get a blank window.

Clean installs have done nothing to fix the problem, except for a brief period.

I cannot restart the server, since it’s run by a third party host.

    Suggestions?

And please make them as simple as possible. My Webmaster is on hiatus and I must fend for myself, so assume total ignorance πŸ™‚

    Peace,
    Gene

One more thing: For the most part, the plug-ins are the same with the two installations, except for the fact that the one that works has the Democracy 2.0.1 plug-in; the other doesn’t.

All my plug-ins are listed as compatible with WP 2.1.

Since this appears to be a problem that’s not unique, I hope someone has a solution.

    Peace Again,
    Gene

You mentioned 2 databases. Are they on the same server and of the same version or…? (There is a minimum requirement for MySQL 4.0 or greater for WP 2.1)

Don’t trust those compatibility lists – things could behave very differently in different environments. So, the “classic” turn-off-plugins-one-by-one method is still recommended.

Proper version of MySQL (says 5.0.24a-standard-log) — same server. Host is DreamHost, which is recommended at your site.

As to the plug-ins, my issue is that the templates were modified for some of those plug-ins, and my Webmaster is on hiatus. So I’m forced to handle this myself, and removal may create display issues. Do you know of any plug-ins that might cause any of these issues?

    I’m using:

    Akismet 2.0
    Comment Quicktags 1.9
    Fancy Archives 0.4
    Filosofo Comments Preview 0.78
    Inline Ajax Comments 0.3
Sociable 1.2 (2.0 has problems for us)
    WordPress Database Backup 1.8
WordPress Mobile Edition (no version number displayed)
    WP-EMail 2.10
    WP-Print 2.10

    Thoughts?

    Peace,
    Gene

    My site? No way.
All the helpers in the forum are volunteers and NOT related in any way with the developers and/or this site.

I am not aware of any issues concerning your list of plugins… which doesn’t mean there couldn’t be any.

I appreciate your response, and I hope others can chime in and suggest something πŸ™‚

    Peace,
    Gene

Sorry I am new to this. Is restarting the server similar to stopping the mysql process and starting it again? I did that but the visual editor is still not working. And no spell check either. The text input box in my setup seems to be overspilling the frame and the right edge of the box are hidden under the categories panel on the left.

Is there suppose to be a spell checker in there?
