I am 90% sure wordpress does a 301 redirect. As far as SEO goes I think you should be good.
Are you using the redirect plugin?

@neovita: Nope, I’m not using a redirect plugin because it looked like it was doing it out of the box.
Does anyone know for certain that it does 301 from no-www to www or vice versa depending on what you have in your Admin’s Site URL field?
Thanks again

almost all server set ups allow this function

@samboll: so if http://domain.com/post/ is being redirected to http://www.domain.com/post/ right now, it’s definitely a global 301 (or does WP use temporary 302)?
Quick note to add: I added my own code in the .htaccess file to do a global 301 from no-www to www and every page looped back to the home page (found the answer to that question here: http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2007/09/25/wordpress-23-canonical-urls/)
really it’s more up to your server.
an easy way to test –
bring up any url on your blog
add or remove the www from the url and hit enter to load the page
does the exact same page show up?

@samboll: the exact page shows up with www –so it’s working properly. Now I think the question is whether or not it’s a 301 or 302 redirect?
Matt Cutts has a great post about the difference between 301 and 302 on his blog: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-advice-discussing-302-redirects/
hi,
i always assumed it was a server 301 but after reading your articles i had some doubt so i did some research
it’s like 99% likely they are 301’s but still…
hope someone more knowledgeable in this area can help better
All versions of WordPress since 2.3 will do 301 redirects based on the domain you’ve set as your “Blog URL” in Settings → General.
use an online redirect checker to see what kind of redirects are being used:

In addition to this, you should use Google’s Webmaster Tools to choose www or no www.
