• I’m starting to think blogger would have been a lot easier for me to use. I’m new to making a website, a blog, using “code”, and everything related to the aforementioned. WordPress looks great and I am amazed with what other people have done with it. However, I don’t want to “outgrow” blogger and have to “upgrade” to wordpress down the road. I am committed to learning how to utilize this wonderful free software from the get-go so my blog/website will someday be as great as the many others I have seen.

This could be only the second of many stupid questions that I might ask. I’ll keep coming back and trying to learn.

    Onto the question…

I installed wordpress through bluehost.com and apparently it installs version 2.3.2.

I went to install a plug in, but there is no wp-content folder on my hosting side of my ftp transfer.

I unzipped a copy of wordpress in explorer and transfered the wp-content folder containing themes, plug ins, and index.php from my hard drive to my hosting site.

Next I tried to transfer ftp redirectify.php from my harddrive to my hosting site but it doesn’t show up on my dashboard in plug in management. What’s the problem?

  • I’m not sure about redirectify, did you put it in public_html/wp_content/plugins/ ? Put it there then try.
On a second note, you should of uploaded the folder redirectify.php was in.

Also, it could be because it’s a different version. You should download the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin and try that, it will update your whole install in a matter of seconds.

I’ve somehow managed to get redirectify to show up but now i can’t get the automatic update to show up now. First I tried to unzip the file and explorer kept on trying to open a window that just kept closing. I opened the file with notepad and saved it as wordpress-automatic-update.php and created a folder for it named wordpress-automatic-update. It doesn’t show up. What did I do wrong?

With all the techies in here, I can’t believe nobody had an answer. If anybody has a similar problem to this–

All of my problems were related to the way Vista was opening my .zip file.

Seems simple, but I saw searched a lot of unresolved posts asking the exact same questions with the same symptoms. Internet explorer opening and closing repeatedly and having to log off or turn off computer to make it normal.

I eventually got to the Default Programs button located right underneath the Control Panel button.

I never changed this setting to anything different so I don’t know why it changed on its own. It just stopped working one day.

I set the .zip to associate with explorer. All problems solved.

Give it a try. If you’re screen is flashing when you try to open a .zip file, this will probably work.
