No WordPress system emails being sent (MAMP)

    Not long after upgrading to 3.4.1 I noticed all system emails (password resets, new site emails, new user emails, gravityforms emails, woocommerce emails etc) were no longer being generated by my MAMP/localhost development environment.

    Previously my MAMP configuration was able to send system emails just fine. I have not changed anything on my MAMP install.

    I have tried an absolute brand new WordPress install (no plugins active, nothing but the base WordPress 3.4.1 build) and have the same problem.

    Has anyone else encountered a similar situation with system emails recently?
