• I would like to give P2 a try because I’d like to have a Twitter-like site but I’m weary to give it a shot, this theme hasn’t been updated since April 7 and the author (Noel) doesn’t provide any kind of support.

    Suggestions anyone?

  • I do like p2 and would love to use it but am hgaving real problems with user roles and profiles.
I have tried all the role plugins but none of the give me the control i need.
It just doesnt seem to be in wordpress.
The support does seem lacking but maybe you just need to ask questions people can answer.
I have lots i need to work out how to do but you dont get anywhere by bombarding people with questions (as i have noticed)
The biggest issue for me though it role control as i said.

Gene53 – The theme will be updated when 2.9 is released. We have a lot of code changes and updates that currently work with trunk releases. I try my best to answer emails, but get a little intimidated by the amount of requests. I’ll try my best to keep up with everyone in the forums, but I try to focus on coding and work with people that send in diffs that would be beneficial to everyone.

Thanks for the answer Noel. Until ver. 2.9 comes out (which could take a while), in your opinion, is the current P2 version working well enough to use it on a live site? (there seems to be a problem with user roles according to hal9000)

    Cheers,
    Gene

ps: what the heck, I’ll give it a try on a fresh WP install anyway…

Would you care to elaborate on the roles control issues you’re having?

    Thanks,
    Gene

I have been using p2 on my live site for two months. Up until this week I have had no problems, but suddenly I have had an email from my webhost saying that /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php is using excessive resources and making the server unstable.

As a result they have disabled the script rendering the whole WP installation unfunctional(is that even a word). Their 24/7 support is not available on weekends it would appear, so I cannot do anything with my site at all until I receive a reply from them.

I haven’t had a problem with any other installations of WP on the same host and am at a loss to work out what has caused this sudden upsurge in resource use.

I have also posted a support request for the problem here

Sorry to hear about this issue with your host. Out of curiosity, how many members do you have on your P2 site?

    Thanks,
    Gene
