No typographic double quotes with FCKeditor

    I noticed today that wptexturize doesn’t work on double quotes. The reason is apparently that FCKeditor’s visual mode converts any double quotes I enter into " (which in itself sounds like a good idea) and wptexturize seems to ignore these.

    It works if I edit the HTML directly and enter double quotes there, but any subsequent edits result in " again and thus no smart quotes.

    Is there a way to fix this short of hacking wptexturize and/or FCKeditor?
