No Toolbar on my WordPress (6 posts)

I just took over a fansite and it has WordPress 3.3.1 installed. The problem is that the dashboard does not display a toolbar. The screen options menu only gives me the option of adding the WP blog, news, and adjusting the number of columns. I've had one other site with WordPress, and it came with a toolbar at the top of the page and more screen options.

I use Google Chrome. Is there any chance that WP and Chrome are incompatible?

Nope! But there is a chance you're running a theme or plugin that's interfering with the toolbar.

Rule out your browser and login using something besides Chrome such as Safari or *shudder* Internet Explorer.

If that's not it (probably isn't, I included it to be complete) then try deactivating all of your plugins and switch to the Twenty Eleven theme just to confirm that the toolbar comes back.

Thanks, I tried IE, with no difference, so the browser is ruled out. The odd thing is that WP worked for the last person who ran the site. It was working until the site was transferred to me, and now the toolbar is gone and WP is useless, for the time being.

  4. It's almost certainly a plugin or theme issue.

    Have you tried

    - Deactivate all of your plugins.

    - Switch your theme to the Twenty Eleven theme.

    - Clearing your browser cache (after you do the above 2 items)

This is just to confirm that your toolbar comes back when you switch to the default settings on your installation.

If it does come back, work your way backwards and re-activate each plugin until you find it. Do the switch back to your theme last, and at some point the toolbar should disappear.

That's how you'll find the culprit.

Thanks for your help Jan, and I'm sorry to have wasted your time. My host failed to make me an admin. She had only made me a subscriber. That has been corrected, and the full dashboard now appears. Thanks again!

Not at all! If you aren't sure about something, there is no harm in asking for help. ;)
