[resolved] No themes after server backup (19 posts)

I did a serverbackup today and when that was done my WordPress was blank. It still works, but there's no theme. Also in the theme menu none of my themes show up. I've tried chmodding everything, but so far no good. Anyone have an idea? here's my address http://cmd.meishi.nl

    Thanks for the help

It seems as if your themes are not where WP is looking for them.

How can I point WP in the right direction?

    The other way around :)
Put the themes where WP is looking for them...

    In the /wp-content/themes/ subdirectory. :)

But all the themes are neatly listed in the Themes directory? Should I reinstall them? Or delete the dir and make a new one?

Check the file permissions then. The file directories should be set to 755 while the files within them should be 644. If they're set to something like 700/600, then WordPress might not be seeing them.

    Well, they are not:
    http://cmd.meishi.nl/wp-content/themes/vSlider2/style.css
    gives an error page!

Strange. When I try that link, I get the blog loading without the theme.

    Ditto on the header image.

    htaccess issue maybe?

    Nah, that's the theme's 404 looks like.

Thanks for the help guys. All files are correctly chmodded and in the right place (according to filezilla that is). But I still don't get the themes in WP and online of course. Now what?

wait I've got some movement. I think there's something wrong with the htaccess file. Could that be?

Looks good to me. I see it now. :)

Sidebar's at the bottom of the page though along with some extra graphics. Looks like the theme needs a little bit of work now.

Yeah, I'm getting there. Still nothing in Firefox though. I think I have to rewrite the htaccess file. I replaced it with an older one...

Try clearing your browser's cache first though. I'd hate to see you muck things up worse if you don't have to.

(might just go to Options -> Permalinks and save so it rebuilds a proper .htaccess)

Once you get it working you really need to talk to your host to figure out just what the heck their backup did to you!

Backups shouldn't really be destructive... :-)

I will, thanks. I will also trace back my steps see if I didn't do anything weird before the back up. Well, thanks all!

Tell that to my ex mother in law and her Caddy's rear bumper.

    :)

    Sorry. Couldn't resist.
