I’ve been having the same problem after switching to my self-hosted site. I’m not finding too much help, despite using SEO Yoast.
SEO is not a magical overnight thing that happens when you put up blog posts. As much as everyone (including me!!!) wishes it was.
There’s a whole lot more to SEO and getting more search results and visitors then adding content and setting up an SEO plugin on your site. The bad news is that if you want big results you have to do big work, normally more then one person can handle. The godo news is that even without that you will still climb and get better in the results, but it’s a longer term process.
With SEO the key is patience. Nothing happens overnight (unless you do something bad), so keep on posting, and you will get up there.
I understand that, but before migrating to my self-hosted site, I had a lot of search terms hits on my wordpress.com site. No I have 0 after quite a while and quite a few posts, and it has been a couple of weeks. I’ve been tagging, entering metadata, reading articles on SEO, entering sitemaps to google webmaster, and so on. There are still no results. I’m thinking it’s more likely that I’ve made a mistake in one of my settings when I migrated, but I can’t be sure because I’m so new.
It’s not a mistake in anything like that. WordPress.COM sites have an SEO advantage (when a istes new at least) because they are part of a bigger netowrk that gets promotion and visitors thorugh that netowrk. When you move ot self-hosted you’re all on your own, and it’s up to you to figure out how to get those visitors and promotional activities again.
