No META descriptions in Google Search Results (2 posts)

    Hi!

    Long search - found similar queries - but none was relevant to my problem.

    I run 5 WP sites and use WordPress SEO for all of them. For every single page (on all websites) I have a meta description (and they are all good and relevant!) They show up nicely on 3 sites, but not on the 2 remaining (naturally, my two largest and most profitable sites). My WordPress SEO settings are the same for all the 5 sites.

    Instead, on my two large sites, the text at the top of the article are constantly shown instead of the meta description in Google Search Results (unless the top sentences actually do work well as a meta - then some random line from the middle of the article is shown).

    The only aspect that separates the 2 large sites from the 3 others is that I once had no meta descriptions on the large ones. But I added the descriptions about 14 months ago now.

    Any suggestions on how I might solve this? At least one site has quite a messy head tag:

    SITE 1

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="<?php bloginfo('html_type'); ?>; charset=<?php bloginfo('charset'); ?>" />
    <meta name="msvalidate.01" content="0765AAE14D1F259463B9B849E64ACE02" />
    <meta name="google-site-verification" content="1gGYO6LDiKLtqV0MeKpvLvHS7oDGjLUbT-MUT4QkSxU" />

    <title><?php wp_title(''); ?></title>

        <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    	<?php if (is_single())
    	{?>
    		<meta name="description" content="<?php single_post_title();?> <?php echo ' - '.get_the_excerpt() . '.' . get_tags_for_post($post->ID, 'category' )?>" />
    		<meta name="keywords" content="<?php echo get_tags_for_post($post->ID, 'category' ). get_tags_for_post($post->ID)?>" />
    	<?php }
    	elseif (is_category())
    	{?>
    			<meta name="description" content="<?php single_cat_title(); echo ', '; bloginfo('description');?>" />
    			<meta name="keywords" content="<?php single_cat_title(); echo ' '; bloginfo('description');?>" />
    	<?php
    	}
    	else
    	{?>
    			<meta name="description" content="<?php bloginfo('name'); echo '. '; bloginfo('description');?>" />
    			<meta name="keywords" content="<?php bloginfo('name'); echo ' '; bloginfo('description');?>" />
    	<?php }?>

    	<style type="text/css" media="screen">
    		@import url( <?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?> );
    	</style>

    	<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />
    	<link rel="alternate" type="text/xml" title="RSS .92" href="<?php bloginfo('rss_url'); ?>" />
    	<link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Atom 0.3" href="<?php bloginfo('atom_url'); ?>" />
    	<link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />

    	<script type="text/javascript" src="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_directory');?>/js/base64.js"></script>

    	<?php wp_get_archives('type=monthly&format=link'); ?>
    	<?php if ( is_singular() ) wp_enqueue_script( 'comment-reply' );?>
    	<?php wp_head(); ?>

    </head>

    SITE 2 HEAD TAG LOOKS LIKE THIS

    <head profile="http://gmpg.org/xfn/11">
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="<?php bloginfo('html_type') ?>; charset=<?php bloginfo('charset') ?>" />
    <meta name="description" content="<?php bloginfo('description') ?>" />
    <meta name="google-site-verification" content="UaWq6li8M_vovT3oxmPScRcyMM8_2u75JEZGKfrXaFQ" />
    <?php if(is_search()) { ?>
    <?php }?>
    <meta name="msvalidate.01" content="0765AAE14D1F259463B9B849E64ACE02" />
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>" media="screen" />
    <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?> RSS Feed" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />
    <title>
    			<?php if (is_home()) { echo bloginfo('name');
    			} elseif (is_404()) {
    			echo '404 Not Found';
    			} elseif (is_category()) {
    			echo 'Category:'; wp_title('');
    			} elseif (is_search()) {
    			echo 'Search Results';
    			} elseif ( is_day() || is_month() || is_year() ) {
    			echo 'Archives:'; wp_title('');
    			} else {
    			echo wp_title('');
    			}
    			?>
    </title>
    <?php wp_head(); ?>
    </head>

    Or could there be another problem?

    I can assure you that if Google aims to improve user experience, they have no reason leaving out my metas.

    Thanks in advance for your help!

    Update your WordPress SEO plugins and see if there's any changes.
