  • Front Page Metadata is not working at all. Is there a workaround for this issue? This used to be awesome, what happened?

Metadata is generated for the front page as long as there is a description in the settings. I’m afraid I cannot reproduce the problem, so I am marking this as resolved. Feel free to provide more information.

I’ve the same problem with WordPress 4.0 an Add Meta Tags since 2.4.3 und newer. On all pages I can edit and save meta title, description an keywords – all works fine, but only on the static frontpage of my website, all things i enter in the backend-input fields are lost wenn I click on the “update” button in the backend and – of course – nothing is displayed in the frontpage header.

perhaps it is interessing: i just tried zu change the frontpage in the wordpress backend setting to another page, but the error still occours on the “old” frontpage.
I’ve expected, that i now could edit the “old” frontpage with meta tags, but it doesn’t work.

    Hi Carlos,

Thanks for your feedback. I still cannot reproduce the problem, but I’m reopening this topic for further investigation.

    This is what I tried:

    1) Created a new page (Page A) and added a title and some dummy content.
    2) Set the page as the front page in Settings->Reading.
    3) Check the metadata of the HTML source code of the front page. A description is autogenerated from the dummy content of Page A.
    4) Edit the page and add a custom description in the Metadata metabox.
    5) Re-check the HTML source code of the front page. My custom description is there.

Please confirm that in your case the problem occurs by following the above procedure. If a different procedure is needed in order to reproduce the problem, please clarify.

    Hi George,

ok, your instructions work. I deleted my old Frontpage und put the content from the Editor in a new file, which i set to frontpage and all works well.

We can define: problem solved, but i doesn’t realize what the reason for this problem was.

Thanks for your help & best regards
    Carlos

BTW, I don’t have an explanation about what caused this issue. How had the old page been created?

The template is my own, but the page was with the normal WP Backend created, but before I installed your plugin.

Add-Meta-Tags saves all metadata in WordPress custom fields using the official API. I’m out of ideas about why it didn’t work with the initial page…
