• Our client does not require payment, as all payments for membership are paid externally, through subscription houses or check, for example. Is there a way to set up a registration form with a required option for a promotional code? My client would rather not sign up for a Paypal account in order to move forward. We would rather create a number of promotional codes, and rotate them out, and leave out PayPal or any other payment option. I am new to this plugin, and I am not 100% familiar with all aspects of WordPress/advanced techniques. So, a detailed walkthrough would be most appreciated.

  • You don’t need to charge users to give them a higher level. You can just edit their profile to give the s2Member access level or custom capability.

Coupons are available with s2Member Pro forms, even 100% off, but it’s not something available in the free version.

    I hope that helps. 🙂

    That’s very helpful, thanks.

One question though: is there a way to not only restrict certain content, but also commenting on forums? Basically, I only want paid members to be able to sign up and also gain access to commenting.

I doubt that anyone will just try to sign up and have to be denied by the administrator manually, but I’m trying to decide if the promo code method is a better idea, with or without payment method as it would prevent just anyone from signing up who didn’t have the code. No code, no registration, basically. But, I like the idea of upgrading them manually, as an extra level of security.

Then there’s the concern about multi-site capability since we have 2 sites, but that’s a different forum topic altogether…

Also, once they’ve logged in, they would be redirected to a Members Only page (set to the membership options page through the plugin) that is normally restricted. I’d like to either restrict that page, but have a message stating they’re waiting for approval, OR have them be redirected to the home page with the same message. Is that easily done? How would I code that out? I’m not the best PHP/WordPress developer, so anything you could suggest would be appreciated.
