No media upload buttons (flash OR browser) on Mac (6 posts)

I'm installing a new WordPress blog for a client, and cannot get the media upload to work at all on a Mac.

    A few details:

    • I have tried everything at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/164999?replies=1

    • This is a totally fresh 2.8 install, not an upgrade from a previous version.

    • This is happening with all plugins uninstalled.

If I reboot into Windows, I can get it to work, so that tells me it's not a problem with the install or file permissions. I've tried to get it to work on 2 different Macs, on a variety of different browsers, but all I get is the title, "Upload New Media", followed by blank space. No buttons at all.

I uninstalled Flash 10 and downgraded to Flash 9. No help.

I installed the "no flash upload" plugin, but that changed nothing.

I personally wouldn't mind manually uploading the files and linking to them myself with html in new posts, but I'm setting this up for a client who is not computer proficient. I need for the inline uploader to work.

Is there a way to make this work? I'm pulling my hair out here.

Oh, I should also mention, because I've seen this listed as a possible cause of such problems... I did have Google Gears installed in Firefox, but I have uninstalled it and the problem persists.

I got the same problem !
But with just one WP site. I can't see the media uploader, but a blank screen.
I got other WP sites, on other servers and they all work without problems from PC and Mac.
I can't understand what it could be the cause?

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    - re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    - increasing the available memory?

    on the problem site

I had the same problem on one solution. I didn't have the Flash Uploader option available. This was only in browsers on MAC not in Windows.

Then I tried to copy this link http://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin/media-new.php?flash=1 into the browser and then I got the option to choose either "Browser Uploader" or "Flash Uploader"

That "fixed" it! :) I don't know if that helps you!

Yes works, very odd. Would like to find an actual fix for this though. :)
