    Hi Tobias,

Firstly, thanks for the great, great plugin! Lots to love about the new TablePress: it’s prettier, and the Row Hover Highlighting is fab.

But now comes the “but” 🙂

WP-Table Reloaded allowed me to manually export a table. From what I’ve seen, this isn’t possible in TablePress? I’m having the same problem as here, but I’d rather not use any kind of workaround solution, as it would add several steps to a process I have to repeat many times on my site. In addition, I would rather not save a lot of files I won’t need later. For me, the manual export in WP-Table Reloaded was very quick and easy. Please, please, please could you re-instate it? 🙂

Another (but much less important) convenience for me would be being able to manually import extra data to an existing table. That’s not possible now, is it? (I’ve got a workaround solution again, but it would be nice to cut out several steps from the process.) Like I say, this feature is not such a big deal for me, as I wouldn’t need it often, but just thought I’d mention it anyway.

I don’t know if you’re familiar with the site, but Quizlet allows you to very rapidly import and export table-style data. It would be great to be able to work just as rapidly with TablePress.

Just realised there’s a simple and obvious solution. I can just copy and paste a table’s data straight from the frontend of my website and import it straight into Excel or a code editor. Special characters like ä and ö get exported successfully too.

    Hi,

thanks for your question! Good to hear that you like the plugin.

I’m a little bit confused though. The “Export” is of course still available. Don’t you have an “Export” button in the navigation menu at the top of the admin screens of TablePress? You should have “All Tables”, “Add”, “Import”, “Export”, “Plugin Options”, and “About” there.

    Hi again,

I just realized: Or are you talking about the “Save to CSV” button that can be added above a table when it is shown in a page on the frontend (via the DataTables TableTools JavaScript library) in WP-Table Reloaded?
That’s indeed not part of TablePress directly, but was moved to a “TablePress Extension”. You can get it at http://tablepress.org/extensions/datatables-tabletools/

    Hi Tobias,

Thanks for answering quickly. And apologies for writing something so unclear earlier.

I was trying to say that I wanted the ability to quickly copy a table’s data to my clipboard for pasting into a code editor or Excel, WITHOUT having to save it as a file. Excel in particular was messing up ä and ö Finnish letters. (I know you suggested a workaround solution to someone else, but that added in several extra steps I would like to avoid, as I have to do this action repeatedly on my site.)

But I later realised that I could simply copy a table to my clipboard from where it appears on the frontend of my site. So I ended up bothering you, when all I needed to do was use my own brain a bit. 🙂

Anyway, thanks for putting me on to those extensions. Looking forward to playing around with them!

    Best wishes,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

thanks for the explanation of what you are trying to do! You had mentioned CSV export, so I was worried that maybe the admin screens were not working for you.

Yes, for getting data into the clipboard, manually selecting the data should work fine. Additionally, the mentioned TablePress Extension will also add a button for that above the table (which might be useful, if you are using pagination to split large tables into several chunks).

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress here in the plugin directory. Thanks!

    Hi,

just to be sure: You can see the “Export” screen in the admin area of TablePress, right?

Yes. Everything is laid out very clearly, so no problem with that at all.

I’ve also just got the Tabletools extension so I can get the data out of my tables really fast now.

    Thanks again, Tobias!
