• So I hadn’t notice this before…but it looks like I’m no longer the admin of my own WordPress install, and I’m the only user on it!

    I can’t publish new pages, search for new plugins or add new users. I can publish posts though, so I’m guessing I’ve been bumped down to either an editor or a contributor. I did have a hack a good few months back which left a couple of rouge files in my theme folder, but that was it. I’ve run a virus scan on my server and nothing’s been found.

    If I go into my database I’m still the only user on there, in the wp_user_meta table under wp_user_level: 10. In the wp_user table the user_status field is set to 0, is this right?

    Has anyone had this issue before? Know of a solution?
    Thanks!

  • Those are correct. Check user capabilities.

    Check user capabilities?

    in the database? I’m set to: a:1:{s:13:”administrator”;b:1;}

    Those are the correct values for admin. Are you running any plugin that controls user capabilities?

    Nope, the only plug-ins I have are a firewall one, admin bar, custom contact forms and a db-back-up one. Security stuff was added after the hack.

    I just tried to create a new admin user from within the db, to see if that would work, when I logged in I was greeted with the “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” page, and now can’t log-out :/

    [edit] logged in on Safari instead as my original admin user.

    Also tried disabling all plug-ins to no effect. Really cba to do a fresh install but fear I might have to.

    Any ideas people? :/
