Looking through the forum it seems several people have had the same or similar problem. I have tried the suggestions and none have seemed to work.

I have followed the installation instructions, but when I go to the install.php page I get the database connection error

    My setup
I am self hosting. I have a db server, READ at 172.20.1.100, running Suse Linux and MySQL version 5.0.45. My web server is IIS 6 on a different box running Windows 2003 with all updates running PHP version 4.4.

    1. I verified that the web server can ping the db server using both the name and ip address.
    2. I verified that the correct username and password are in the wp-config.php file by copying and pasting them into MySQL administrator and connecting to the db. I was able to create a table then drop it as the user in the Administrator.
    3. I verified that the WP install is using my wp-config.php file because as I change the db name it is changed in the error message.
    4. I downloaded a new copy of WP and then recopied it to my web server.
    5. I have tried every variation of the db server name I can think of, Read, read, 172.20.1.100, 172.20.1.100:3306, with single quotes (‘) and double quotes (“).
    6. I have used both Firefox 3 and IE 7.
    7. I got up and walked around for a while and drank a Dew.
    8. Except for rebooting the servers, which I really don’t want to do, I still can’t get to the installation page.

Does anyone have ANY ideas on what I have missed?

    Mark
