    When I log on to add posts the new menu is down the left side and the "help" button tells me that when I hover over "dashboard" a drop down menu will appear - but it doesn't so I can not add, edit blogs - I'm completely stuck - please help?

    To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Twelve, Twenty Thirteen or Twenty Fourteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard.

    Hey Tara - I'm so sorry I have no idea how to do what you say - I know nothing about computers or software - a friend set up WordPress for me so I could write a blog - but it seems impossible for me to fix this now - I need to maybe try and find someone who can access my site and try these things out that you suggest -0 but at this time I don't know anyone like that.....can you maybe make it really simple for me?

    - You can switch to the default in dashboard (admin).
    Dashboard => Apperance => Themes

    - Also, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.
