• I have uploaded two plugins to my wp-content/plugins folder keeping the file structure as indicated in readme files. However, when I manage my plugins they are not detected. It says that there are no plugins available. I have hosting with godaddy and am not sure how to proceed.

  • Does it not detect even the plugins that come with WordPress? Is this WordPress 1.5?

No it doesn’t and I have changed the properties of my wp-content folder and subfolder to ‘777’ read write execute using WS FTP and this doesn’t help. In fact when I re-open WS FTP it doesn’t keep the 777 status. It is word press 1.5. And it does detect new themes. It also will not allow me to upload files, although this may be due to an incorrect destination directory. Nor can I edit theme properties via changing the style.css within the word press editor.

Upgrade to the most current stable release of WordPress (current v1.5.2) and check your plugins again.

You say permissions don’t stick after you change them? That sounds like an issue with your host, not WP.

Do the permissions just not stick for that directory? Could be some kind of corruption that only your host can fix. Can you rename the wp directory to something else, and upload a clean install into a newly created directory (with the same name as the original wp directory)?

If that works, then move forward, and just ask your host to nuke the bad old directory.
