THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TRYING TO BACKUP UP WP THIS WAY!!!
I was trying to backup the folder from my server containing all wordpress files (FTPing to local drive with Transmit on a Mac). Transmit dropped the connection in the middle of the tranfer and was never able to get back on. Consequently, I am now not able to access my site via http, get my email from same server via the mail app, or FTP to the server from this machine. But the site is accessible from other machines. is there some port or something that I goofed up that wordpress uses that now won't see my server from this machine???? This is seriously the second time this has happened. First time at work so I figured it was a firewall issue. But now it's doing it at home - no firewall. HALP!!!
WordPress would not have anything to do with you not being able to access your email or server. It's just a coincidence that you happened to be working with WordPress stuff when it happened.
You need to contact your host and see what's up. Sounds like your server crashed. It's also possible that your FTP program has a weird setting.
nope, no crash. The site is totally accessable from any other machine out there (try it: http://www.projectbob.com) I was hoping someone knew if there was something in the system software that would react negatively to a sitiuation thereby shuting off access to the "offending" site? I don't use firewall software so it's not that.

I think you went over bandwidth limit of your hosting service and got shut off from connection. Contact your hosting service for help.
Thanks again. Like I've said before, my site (and the server and everything that implies) is totally accessible from any other machine in the world EXCEPT the one I was trying to back up WP to. It's like something got glogged or shut off from letting me get to it from this particular machine.
