• After a long absence I’ve decided to take a fresh look at WordPress.
Since I just want a sandbox I’m going to download and install a 1.3 nightly — unfortunately I haven’t been paying attention. I wonder if there are any gottchas with the most recent build and if I would be better off with another.

  • If you want something that’s proven time and time again to work, try 1.2 Mingus. It’s really a bad idea to start off w/ one of the nightlies, since 1.3 is still in the Alpha stages, and things are changing daily.

Thanks TG. I’ve used 1.2, and the previous ones and am familiar with WP. As far as running a nightly goes, if it wasn’t a bad idea it wouldn’t be any fun at all 🙂
I understand the potential issues with Alpha software — I’m primarily concerned about regressive bugs in the latest nightly and if there is a ‘better’ build.

Nope, no better one, just be warned that because it worked today’s nightly doesn’t mean it will still work tomorrow. I only cautioned against it because it’s an all too familiar thread: “I downloaded your latest build and got all these errors, WP sucks….etc”… but if you know what you are doing, and are comfortable with the nightlies, then by all means, jump in!

Is it okay to say: “I downloaded your latest build and got all these errors, I suck….etc”?

    timeistight,
It’s entirely appropriate to check to see if your error/bug is reproducible and to head over to http://mosquito.wordpress.org/ and see if someone has already logged the same issue. If nobody has, then by all means enter the bug yourself! In this way you are contributing to the development of the project.

Can we just be careful to distinguish between a bug and a hack ?

I was just kidding around, NM. I haven’t really had any problems with 1.3, although I’m completely cognizant of the risks I’m taking.

    timeistight,
    🙂
